Domnina and Shabalin

Moving on to Dance, this is a fun couple to watch. I saw them as very intense, which fits with their choice of music. Susie Wynn calls them both “intense,” but “tentative,” especially in their twizzle (I love that word) sequence. I dunno—how can they be both intense and tentative? Susie also mentions the modification in the scoring; circular footwork is now weighted as heavily as serpentine footwork, making for a “greater impact.” One of the more interesting aspects of the new scoring system is the adaptations and changes along the way, which I like. It shows that the IOC is willing to improve the system as we go along. They’re willing to let actual practice and real-life affect the scoring. That’s one of the more positive aspects of the new system as well.
