Evan Lysacek - Carmen

I love this program. Evan doesn’t do as well as he did at the Olympics, or at the Nationals, or even later on at Cup of America, but it’s one of the best choreographed programs, one of his best. So why in the world did they interview Johnny Weir at the beginning of Evan’s program? It felt like ABC was pandering to Weir’s ambitions to become a skating commentator. NBC certainly did that during the Olympics. The bugger about it, though, is that Weir is quite good at it. I can see him taking over as the next Dick Button. I don’t know what I think about that. You’d think from my comments about Weir that I don’t like him. That far from the truth—I think he’s incredibly talented and his own person, which I respect.

Anyway, back to Evan. “Carmen” is probably one of the most overused pieces of music in figure skating. There’s a reason for that, since it’s such a visual piece, perfect for figure skating. Evan pulls it off, too. I think that he needs to hold on to this program for as long as he can; it’s been very successful for him.

The commentators mentioned something about Evan delving into acting like Sasha Cohen, and that he got a short part in an indie film. I could see Evan becoming an actor.
