Verner is from the Czech Republic; I’m all for former Communist nations doing well in international competitions. I’m not very familiar with him; he came in fifth. One thing to mention, though, is the obvious choreography. As one of the American commentators said, there was “lots of resting” in this program. (The Canadian commentators agreed, saying that he was “better than his choreography.”) I understand it, especially for new skaters, but I’m not sure I like it, especially when it’s this obvious. And I’m not sure he needs to do it.
