Putnam & Wirtz

This is a nice pairs team; they’ve had some personal tragedies recently, but have done well this season (4th in this competition, eligible for the Grand Prix final later this month). The cool thing about the Grand Prix is that we get to see each country’s best skaters highlighted. Canada has a strong pairs program, so several of their teams competed at this competition. Another great thing about it is that we get to see the fans’ reactions to their own skaters. It was obvious that the audience was pulling for this team, for good reason.

I like knowing about the personal lives of the skaters, and about the difficulties they have to overcome, but it takes a good interviewer to handle it adeptly. Peter Carruthers isn’t a good interviewer. Actually, he’s horrible. I was more embarrassed for him, and his “Special moment” comment.
