Steven Colbert

Just added "The Colbert Report" (and "The Daily Show") to my TiVo schedule. Colbert just cracks me up. Watching it this afternoon, I can't believe no one has ever made the below comparison. Well, maybe they have; I've never seen it.

Of course, there's a reason why I went there. Sam the Eagle is a very similar character to Colbert. They're both parodies of the right. Colbert, however, is more effective and more funny because he's not a Muppet. I can imagine Sam being described like Colbert is in a recent New York Magazine article:
This has been a very good year for Stephen Colbert, both the 42-year-old, God-fearing, Catholic Church–attending comedian and his even-more-God-fearing, lefty-baiting, fact-averse TV alter ego.

Oh, yeah. Colbert and Stewart are why I still have cable at all.

The man is a consummate comic genius. His highest point (for me) was the day after the election, where he did the entire "The Word" segment silent. Awesome.
